Phew, just got back from my second stint at mount Everest. Apparently only a handful of people have ever made it down the Southern side of the mountain. Or was it western side. I can’t remember which one the guide mentioned. But it was amazing!
The most amazing part of the entire climb was meeting people at the mid camp. Cold as it was, the only way to combat the temperature was to have a good laugh. We had coffee out in the open sunshine and had a nice time of chatting. There was a chick climber as well – she was really something. Outpaced me in the final stint to the summit she did. Wasn’t surprised. She was one of the first women to attack the K2 summit. I haven’t been to that one myself. We’ll be meeting sometime next week for dinner. And hopefully something else as well.
Next on the list is a unique one of a kind experience of repelling down several sheer cliff faces of the Grand Canyon. No one has been allowed to do that for a while. But they gave me and my team special permission to do so. I have to say, I’m looking forward to it. After the everest stint, I’d like to go somewhere warm. They said they’ll have to fly us over the cliffs via helicopter. i told them I’d much prefer a hike. Helps you get the scenery in.
Some discussion is also going on about whether we should take a night expedition as well. Very few people have ever tackled the canyon in the dark. I wonder what that would be like. Can’t be any worse that that cave exploration we did back in Malaysia. Those caves were so deep in that it nearly scared me how long it took to get back out.
Anyway, I’m off for my next gala dinner at yet another world renown restaurant – the Con Fabes in Barcelona. I hear all the big names in the entertainment industry will be there. They’ve even seated me next to Martin Scorcese. Looking forward to the conversation. I’m personally handling the wine shipment. Will be using my personal purchase of 1995 Chteau Margaux. Probably one of the darkest wines I’ve ever seen, but the flavour is amazing.
Cheers.
